DIY Reversible Farmhouse Board with Melissa Bradshaw

Hi friends! Melissa Bradshaw of Junk and Craft Treasures joined us again for another cozy crafting night on the Essential Stencil page. In this tutorial, she walks us through not one—but two—adorable DIY projects using stencils and rub-on transfers. Whether you’re prepping for a craft show or just decorating your space, you’ll love this double-sided farmhouse board!

    Table of Contents

    Farmhouse Cow Side

    Materials:

    Step 1: Prep the Base

Start with a blank cutting board brush on watered-down brown paint to create a stained wood effect, adjusting the water ratio to add texture and depth.

    Step 2: Sand for Texture

Let it dry fully, then lightly sand using 320 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.

Step 3: Stencil the Bottom Border

Using the patterned design from the Simply Blessed Door Hanger, stencil the bottom edge for a subtle farmhouse accent.

    Step 4: Add the Cow

Next, stencil the Cow from the Eggs. Bacon. Milk. stencil set with white acrylic paint

    Step 5: Stencil Cow Spots

To finish, use the cow print pattern from the Farm Patterns Stencil Set to paint black cow spots, tying the look together.

    Final Look

The finished side features a warm, rustic farmhouse design that’s equal parts fun and functional—perfect for home decor or craft booths.

    Helpful Tips:
    • Use light layers of paint—to avoid bleed-through.
    • Try a test stencil on scrap wood to get a feel for pressure and paint consistency.

    Honeybee Transfer Side

    Materials:

Step 1: Paint the Reverse Side

Melissa flips the board over and applies a fresh coat of white Fusion Mineral Paint to create a clean background for her transfer work.

Step 2: Apply the Honey Bee Transfers

Once the paint is fully dry, position and apply the Honey Bee Rub-On Transfers using the new Essential Stencil Transfer Tool to ensure smooth, even adhesion.

    Final Look

This side of the board transforms into a sweet, nature-inspired bee theme—creating the perfect complement to the rustic cow side.

    Helpful Tips:
    • Make sure your surface is completely dry and clean before applying transfers for the best result.
    • Rub gently and evenly to avoid tearing or shifting during application.
