    Materials Needed

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Start with a Soft Background

Apply a base coat of Alabaster (Fusion's Alchemy line) with a small brush, feathering the edges for a faded background look. Sharon used cardboard, but this technique works on wood or canvas too.

    2. Stencil Layer 1 โ€“ Barn Base

Use Clay for the barn, using a stippling or swirling motion. Offload your brush well to avoid bleed-through. Hold the stencil tightly against your surface to prevent movement.

    3. Stencil Layer 2 โ€“ Flag, Truck & Details

Switch brushes and colors: Midnight Blue for the flag, Thyme for grassy areas, and Cranberry for those vintage red truck vibes. Make sure brushes are dry to avoid water seeping under your stencil.

    4. Stencil Layer 3 โ€“ Final Shadows and Accents

Apply Hazelwood and Black for shadows, window depth, and roof lines. This layer pulls the design together, adding beautiful dimension to your stencil work.

    5. The Big Reveal

Once all layers are dry and lined up, lift the stencil for the final reveal. Admire your dimensional, patriotic artwork!

    Helpful Tips

    • Offload well: Less paint on your brush means cleaner stencil lines.
    • Multiple brushes: Keep 3โ€“4 brushes on hand to avoid washing and drying between colors.
    • Practice on cardboard: A great way to build confidence before working on wood or canvas.
    • Seal your piece: Use wax or top coat if displaying outdoors or on furniture.
