Hi friends! Sharon Hankins of I Restore Stuff is back with a classic Americana project featuring the Layering Patriotic Barn and Truck Stencil. If you love vintage red trucks and barn-inspired farmhouse charm, this three-layer stencil is a perfect way to celebrate your patriotic spirit year-round. Follow along for paint tips, brush tricks, and Sharon's expert layering advice.
Apply a base coat of Alabaster (Fusion's Alchemy line) with a small brush, feathering the edges for a faded background look. Sharon used cardboard, but this technique works on wood or canvas too.
Use Clay for the barn, using a stippling or swirling motion. Offload your brush well to avoid bleed-through. Hold the stencil tightly against your surface to prevent movement.
Switch brushes and colors: Midnight Blue for the flag, Thyme for grassy areas, and Cranberry for those vintage red truck vibes. Make sure brushes are dry to avoid water seeping under your stencil.
Apply Hazelwood and Black for shadows, window depth, and roof lines. This layer pulls the design together, adding beautiful dimension to your stencil work.
Once all layers are dry and lined up, lift the stencil for the final reveal. Admire your dimensional, patriotic artwork!
