Bring a touch of classic holiday charm to your front door with this festive "Welcome to the Nuthouse" Nutcracker Sign! In this tutorial, Tammy Muto of Cheers to Creativity shows how to layer Essential Stencil’s Nutcracker Welcome Door Hanger Stencil to create a shimmering, multi-dimensional holiday piece.
Paint your 12" round with white metallic or pearl paint for a soft shimmer. Let it dry completely before stenciling.
Position the first stencil layer and fill the Nutcracker design and “Welcome to the Nuthouse” lettering with Tuscan red using a mini stencil brush.
Using a regular stencil brush, fill the trees and curved line with Hauser Green paint. Apply a second coat if needed for even coverage.
With a mini brush, paint the stars using gold metallic paint and let them dry.
Position Layer 2 of the stencil pack. Paint the Nutcracker’s face with warm beige, and add soft red cheeks for warmth.
Paint the buttons gold first, then lightly brush white paint on top for highlights. Add Hauser Green to the Nutcracker’s sleeves and boots.
Using a mini brush, layer gold on the tree details and fill the light bulbs with festive red, green, and blue paints. Add matching glitter paint for extra sparkle!
Position the final face stencil layer. Paint the hair and mustache silver, then add white highlights. Use black for the eyes and red for the nose to bring your Nutcracker to life!
Lightly brush white paint beneath the trees to create a subtle snowy ground. Once dry, your festive Nutcracker sign is ready to welcome guests!
