Hey friends! Amanda Dillon of Mettle Modern Design joined us live to share a beautiful coastal project that’s perfect for transitioning from summer into fall. Using just a few colors of stain, the Sea Turtle Stencil, and the Grass Stencil, she created a coastal-inspired piece that feels like a postcard from the beach. Let’s walk through the steps so you can make your own!
Cover the entire board (including the edges) with Bay Blue stain using a sponge.
With a clean sponge, blend Botanical Green on the lower half of the board. Lightly spritz with water to soften the transition and achieve a smooth ombre effect.
Once the stain is completely dry, sand the surface lightly to prepare for stenciling.
Position the Sea Turtle Stencil in the center of the board. Using a stencil brush, apply white paint in light dabbing motions. Add a second coat for a crisp finish. Use a blow dryer to speed up drying if needed.
Place the Grass Stencil just below the turtle, tilting it slightly for a natural look. Stencil with black paint, then repeat on the opposite side to create a grassy base.
Your coastal turtle wall art is complete! The stained background brings depth, while the white turtle and black grasses pop against it beautifully.
