Faith, Hope & Love: A Soft, Romantic Rose Canvas Set

There’s something really special about creating a project that feels meaningful and beautiful. In this tutorial, Essential Stencil Ambassador Tammy Muto of Cheers to Creativity shares how to create a coordinated Faith, Hope & Love rose canvas set using soft layers, subtle shimmer, and gentle shading techniques.

This project is perfect for gifts, seasonal décor, or a calming creative session when you want something elegant but approachable.

    Materials

    Step 1: Prep the Canvases

Paint all three 4×12 wrapped canvases with a neutral base color, including the sides. This keeps the set looking cohesive from every angle.

Tip: If your canvas feels a little loose, lightly mist the back with water and let it dry to tighten the surface.

Step 2: Create a Soft Script Background

Align the canvases side by side and lay the Love Is Patient script stencil across the top. Using champagne gold metallic paint, stencil lightly so the words feel more like texture than text.

Helpful Tip: When stenciling with metallics, offload extra paint until the brush looks almost dry. This keeps the background subtle and elegant.

Step 3: Stencil & Paint the Roses

Position one Long Stem Rose stencil on each canvas and secure with tape.

    Canvas One

Paint the rose petals with muted pink. Add a touch more pink along the edges for dimension. Paint the stem and leaves green, then softly deepen the leaf edges with dark green.

    Canvas Two

Mix muted pink with a little white to create a lighter shade. Fill in the rose, keeping the leaves consistent with the first canvas.

    Canvas Three

Create the lightest rose by adding more white to the pink. Once filled, softly shade the petal edges with the original pink.

Step 4: Add Faith, Hope & Love

Using the Valentine Scripture & Love Sayings stencil, add one word to each canvas in pink: Faith, Hope, and Love.

    Step 5: Finishing Details

With a detail brush, add thin dark green vein lines to the leaves for extra dimension.

Lightly sand the edges of each canvas, then add a touch of brown paint for a soft, rustic finish.

    Final Reveal

Display them together for a statement piece, or separate them throughout your home. Either way, this set is a beautiful reminder that faith, hope, and love never go out of style.
