This project is such a sweet reminder that even after the stormiest days, something beautiful can bloom. Today we’re creating a simple vertical sign using soft blended colors, delicate raindrops, and layered florals to bring the phrase “After the rain comes the flowers” to life.
This one is beginner-friendly but still gives you that custom, handcrafted look—perfect for spring décor or a meaningful gift.
1. Paint Your Base
Start by painting your 16" x 5.5" board with white paint, covering both the front and sides evenly. Let it dry completely, then apply a second coat if needed for a smooth, solid finish.
2. Position Your Stencil
Turn your board vertically and center the phrase from the Stronger Than the Storm stencil set. Secure it in place with tape to prevent shifting.
3. Blend Your Colors
Mix a deeper pink using cranberry and soft pink tones. Fill the bottom half of the phrase with this color. Then use a light blue for the top half.
Lightly blend where the colors meet to create a soft transition—this adds depth and a hand-painted feel.
4. Add Raindrops
Using the raindrop stencil from the same set, position it toward the top of the board. Apply light blue paint with a stencil brush using a gentle pouncing motion.
Less paint is key here—this helps prevent bleeding and keeps your lines crisp.
5. Add a Shimmer Layer
Once the raindrops are dry, go back over them with a clear shimmer paint using a mini stencil brush for a subtle sparkle effect.
6. Apply Floral Transfers
Cut out floral and bee elements from the Rustic Summer Flowers transfer set. Arrange them along the bottom of your sign, layering pieces to create a natural bouquet look.
Use your transfer tool to burnish each piece onto the surface.
