Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Surface

Start with a round board that has already been painted white. A single coat creates a lightly distressed, whitewashed appearance that's perfect for farmhouse décor. Make sure the paint is completely dry before you begin.

Step 2: Stencil the Greeting

Position the Harvest Blessings stencil near the bottom of the board. Load your stencil brush with Chestnut Mare Fusion Mineral Paint, then offload most of the paint onto a paper towel or cardboard before stenciling. Apply the paint using light swirling motions and build the color gradually to help prevent paint bleed.

Step 3: Apply the Vintage Truck Transfer

Cut out the vintage truck from the Cozy Fall Farmhouse transfer set. Position it near the top of the board and use the transfer tool to burnish the entire design until it releases from the backing paper. Peel slowly, and if any section remains attached to the sheet, simply lay it back down and rub again.

Step 4: Add a Simple Shadow Effect

Once the orange lettering has dried, reposition the stencil exactly where it was before, then shift it slightly upward and to one side. Using black paint, stencil only the word "Harvest." This small offset creates an easy shadow effect that instantly adds depth and makes the design stand out.

This is an easy technique that can be used on many stencil projects whenever you want a dimensional look.

Helpful Tips

Less paint is always better. Offloading your brush helps produce crisp stencil lines.
Use gentle swirling motions instead of brushing back and forth.
Burnish every section of your transfer before removing the backing.
If part of the transfer stays on the sheet, simply place it back down and rub again.
The shadow technique works best with a very small offset for a natural dimensional effect.
