Hey friends! Amanda from Mettle Modern Design here. Todayβs project is all about keeping things simple, classic, and sellableβwith a coastal patriotic twist.
If you love quick projects that still make a big impact, this one is for you. Weβre using a wooden paddle board, a bold stencil design, and a timeless red, white, and blue color palette.
Start by lightly sanding your wooden paddle board to create a smooth, even surface. This helps your stain and paint go on cleanly and evenly.
Using a stain sponge, apply a white water-based stain across the entire board. Let it dry, then apply a second coat if needed.
This technique lets the wood grain show through, giving you that soft, rustic coastal look.
Once fully dry, lightly sand again to smooth out any raised grain.
This step makes a big difference in your final finishβdonβt skip it!
Center the βOlde Gloryβ stencil on your board and secure it with tape.
Using a stencil brush, apply crimson red paint in light layers, building up the color gradually.
It may look pink at firstβkeep layering until you get a rich, bold red.
Use painterβs tape to create space on both sides of the wording. Fill the gaps with deep blue paint.
Allow to dry, then apply a second coat for full coverage.
Reposition your tape to create thinner accent lines. Fill these with red paint using the same light layering technique.
Lightly sand over the entire piece if you want a softer, aged look.
Donβt worry about tiny imperfectionsβthey add to the rustic charm.
Finish by wrapping jute around the handle and securing it with hot glue for a simple, coastal touch.
This project is a perfect example of how simple can still be stunningβand profitable. If youβre ready to create your own version, grab the latest designs below!
