Patriotic Paddle Board DIY (Easy + Sellable!) πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Hey friends! Amanda from Mettle Modern Design here. Today’s project is all about keeping things simple, classic, and sellableβ€”with a coastal patriotic twist.

If you love quick projects that still make a big impact, this one is for you. We’re using a wooden paddle board, a bold stencil design, and a timeless red, white, and blue color palette.

Olde Glory Paddle Board

Materials:

Step 1: Prep Your Surface

Start by lightly sanding your wooden paddle board to create a smooth, even surface. This helps your stain and paint go on cleanly and evenly.

Step 2: Apply White Stain

Using a stain sponge, apply a white water-based stain across the entire board. Let it dry, then apply a second coat if needed.

This technique lets the wood grain show through, giving you that soft, rustic coastal look.

Step 3: Light Sanding

Once fully dry, lightly sand again to smooth out any raised grain.

This step makes a big difference in your final finishβ€”don’t skip it!

Step 4: Stencil the Design

Center the β€œOlde Glory” stencil on your board and secure it with tape.

Using a stencil brush, apply crimson red paint in light layers, building up the color gradually.

It may look pink at firstβ€”keep layering until you get a rich, bold red.

Step 5: Add Blue Stripes

Use painter’s tape to create space on both sides of the wording. Fill the gaps with deep blue paint.

Allow to dry, then apply a second coat for full coverage.

Step 6: Add Red Accent Stripes

Reposition your tape to create thinner accent lines. Fill these with red paint using the same light layering technique.

Step 7: Distress & Finish

Lightly sand over the entire piece if you want a softer, aged look.

Don’t worry about tiny imperfectionsβ€”they add to the rustic charm.

Finish by wrapping jute around the handle and securing it with hot glue for a simple, coastal touch.

Helpful Tips:
  • Always offload paint from your brush to prevent bleed-through
  • Build color in thin layers for the cleanest stencil results
  • Use light sanding to enhance a rustic, coastal finish
  • Simple designs like this are great for selling at markets

This project is a perfect example of how simple can still be stunningβ€”and profitable. If you’re ready to create your own version, grab the latest designs below!
