Cow Barnwood Sign with β€œFarm Charm”

Step 1: Prepare Your Board

Start by preparing your 18x9 wood board. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before beginning. If needed, lightly sand the board for a smoother finish while still keeping that rustic texture.

Step 2: Apply the Cow Transfer

Trim around the cow design from the transfer sheet to make placement easier. Position the transfer onto the board while leaving enough room at the top for your stencil phrase.

Using the transfer tool, slowly burnish the design onto the wood. If your board has grooves or rough texture, work the tool along the grooves instead of across them for better adhesion.

Step 3: Stencil the Phrase

Using painter’s tape, isolate the β€œFarm Charm” phrase from the stencil set. Load a stencil brush with white paint and lightly stencil the words above the cow design.

Allow the first coat to dry slightly before applying a second coat for a brighter finish.

Helpful Tips

  • Trim transfers closely before applying for easier positioning.
  • Use light layers of paint when stenciling to prevent bleeding.
  • Dry brushing works beautifully on rustic wood for farmhouse-style signs.
  • Don’t rush removing the transfer backing β€” peel slowly while checking adhesion.

Materials Needed

Step 1: Create a Rustic Background

For this sign, lightly dry brush watered-down white paint over the board. This softens the wood tone while still allowing the natural grain to show through.

This simple step adds beautiful contrast behind the horse transfer.

Step 2: Apply the Horse Transfer

Once the background is fully dry, position the Wild Horse transfer onto the board. Burnish carefully using the transfer tool, making sure the design settles into all the grooves and texture of the wood.

Step 3: Add the β€œCountry Blessings” Stencil

Tape off the wording you want to use and stencil β€œCountry Blessings” above the horse design using a soft gray paint.

Allow the paint to dry, then apply a second coat if needed for a bolder finish.

Helpful Tips

  • Use watered-down paint for a softer farmhouse finish.
  • Taping off portions of stencil designs lets you customize phrases easily.
  • Work slowly when applying transfers to textured wood surfaces.
  • Neutral paint colors help the animal artwork stand out beautifully.

These matching farmhouse animal signs came together beautifully using a combination of oversized rub-on transfers and simple stencil phrases. The rustic wood texture paired with soft neutral paint tones gives both projects a cozy country feel that works perfectly for farmhouse decor.
