Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – Create the Base

Place painter's tape across the center of your 16-inch wood round to divide the board into two sections while leaving room for a decorative bow at the top.

Paint the bottom half with mustard yellow paint using smooth, even coats. Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the tape.

Step 2 – Add Rustic Character

Brush Valspar Antiquing Glaze over the painted surface.

Don't panic when it first goes on. Wipe some of the glaze away with a clean towel before it dries to reveal hints of the mustard paint underneath. This creates beautiful depth and gives the project a warm vintage finish.

Step 3 – Stencil the Greeting

Position only the Hello Fall portion of the stencil in the upper section.

Using a stencil brush with lightly loaded white paint, apply the design using a gentle swirling motion.

White paint usually looks best with two light coats instead of one heavy coat.

Step 4 – Apply the Floral Transfers

Cut out several floral pieces from the Autumn Flower Transfer Set.

Arrange them until the layout feels balanced before burnishing each transfer with the transfer tool. Once fully adhered, slowly peel away the backing.

Always make sure your painted surface is completely dry before applying transfers for the best adhesion.

Step 5 – Finish with a Bow

Attach your favorite decorative bow to the top center using hot glue.

For even more personality, finish the center with a decorative button, greenery, or another embellishment.

Helpful Tips

  • Offload excess paint before stenciling to prevent paint bleed.
  • Build white paint with multiple light coats.
  • Allow every layer to dry completely before adding transfers.
  • Arrange transfer pieces before burnishing for the best composition.
  • Use antiquing glaze sparingly and wipe back until you're happy with the finish.

Final Reveal

The combination of warm mustard tones, distressed glaze, crisp lettering, and rich floral transfers creates a welcoming fall sign that's perfect for your front door or entryway.
