Hi crafty friends! Melissa Bradshaw of Junk and Craft Treasures brought the cozy charm in this easy and eye-catching project using Essential Stencil’s newest releases. Learn how to turn an 18" wood round into a stylish double-sided sign featuring the ever-versatile “Home Sweet Home” stencil with a modern checkered twist.
Use a tape measure to find the center of your 18" round and mark it with a pencil.
Apply painters tape down the middle to divide the board into two halves.
Mix brown paint with a bit of water to create a wash. Brush it over one half of the board and let it dry completely.
Paint the other half white. Apply two coats for opacity. Allow to dry and sand lightly.
Place the Checkered Stencil over the white side. Use a dry brush technique with black paint to create a faded, rustic effect. Let dry and lightly sand.
Align the Home Sweet Home Stencil on the stained side. Tape it down securely and stencil the words in white, starting from the bottom and working up.
Use a detail brush and lightly dab paint to fill in the stencil bridge gaps. Use very little paint to avoid buildup and keep your letters looking crisp.
This sign is perfect for transitional decor—simply swap out the bow for the season!
