DIY β€œSpooky for a Cause” Witch Broom with Melissa Bradshaw

Hi friends! Melissa Bradshaw of Junk & Craft Treasures joined us for a creative and meaningful DIY night on the Essential Stencil page. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she designed a whimsical Halloween broom using our new Spooky for a Cause Rub-on Transfers β€” with proceeds going directly to cancer research. 🩷

In true Melissa style, this project combines creativity, purpose, and a little bit of spooky fun. Follow along to make your own pink-and-black witch broom that celebrates strength and hope this October.

πŸŽ€ Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Paint the broom base

Start by mixing bright pink and white paint to create a soft pink shade. Apply it to the top part of the broomstick, covering the sides as well.

Next, apply white paint to the bottom section, blow-dry, and add a second coat for smooth coverage.

2. Add black stripes

Use black paint and painter’s tape to create evenly spaced stripes on the pink area. The contrast between pink and black gives this broom its playful β€œwitchy” vibe!

Once dry, lightly sand the surface for a smooth finish.

3. Add your transfers

Cut out the moon and witch from the Spooky for a Cause Transfer Pack and position them near the top. Burnish gently with the Transfer Tool until they adhere smoothly.

4. Stencil your phrase

Use the β€œWitch is In” stencil just below the moon. Hold it in place with tape and apply black paint with your stencil brush.

5. Add details and finish

Cut out the cauldron and bats from the transfer sheet and burnish them below your lettering. Add candy transfers for a whimsical, sweet-spooky accent.

Finish by brushing a bit of black paint along the edges for a rustic touch, then lightly sand again for a soft, weathered look.

πŸ’‘ Helpful Tips

  • Always make sure your painted surface is completely dry and oil-free before applying transfers.
  • Use small, circular motions with your transfer tool for the cleanest rub-on results.
  • For more depth, layer transfers slightly β€” like Melissa did with the witch and moon!
  • Keep your design balanced by clustering similar colors together (black elements near black accents).
