If you’re dreaming of soft beach colors, shimmering details, and fun coastal decor, this project is such a fun one to make. Sharon Hankins from I Restore Stuff shared this beautiful ocean-inspired sign using products from the brand-new Essential Stencil coastal collection, and the finished piece has the prettiest layered beachy look.
This project combines soft paint blending, crisp stencil details, and metallic rub-on transfers for a dimensional underwater effect that’s perfect for summer decorating.
Start with a 6"x16" rectangular board painted in a soft pastel blue color. Make sure the surface is completely dry before beginning your design.
Lightly brush silver shimmer paint across the surface of the board to create a soft watery glow. This adds beautiful dimension and gives the sign a subtle beach-inspired sparkle.
Tip: Use a light hand while brushing so the shimmer effect stays soft and layered instead of fully opaque.
Position the board vertically and tape down the “Mermaid Kisses and Starfish Wishes” stencil from the Mermaid Kisses set.
Mix white and turquoise paint together to create a soft ocean-inspired color. Using a stencil brush, apply the paint with a light swirling motion for crisp stencil coverage.
Carefully remove the stencil and allow the design to dry completely.
Cut out the mermaid tail design from the Under The Sea transfer set and place it near the bottom of the board.
Use the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool to gently burnish the design until fully adhered. Slowly peel away the backing sheet.
The metallic shimmer details in these transfers add such a gorgeous coastal touch.
Cut out additional starfish and bubble elements from the transfer set and arrange them around the board for a playful underwater look.
Burnish each transfer well before removing the backing sheet.
Spacing the transfers around the edges helps frame the quote beautifully while keeping the design balanced.
This finished sign has such a soft coastal cottage feel with the layered shimmer background, beachy colors, and metallic underwater details. It’s a perfect summer decor piece for shelves, entry tables, or beach house styling.
