How to Make Coastal Christmas Ornaments

Step 1: Prepare Your Ornament

Start with clean, smooth plastic ornaments. Place each ornament into a small bowl, cup, or foam holder to prevent it from rolling while you work.

Step 2: Apply the Transfer

Cut out your favorite sea turtle from the transfer sheet. Position it carefully on the ornament and use the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool to firmly burnish the design onto the curved surface.

Work slowly from one side to the other, lifting the backing only after each section has fully released. This helps ensure a clean transfer without damaging the design.

Step 3: Add the Hanger

Tie a simple piece of jute or twine through the ornament loop to give your ornament a natural coastal look before decorating.

Step 4: Embellish Your Ornament

Now it's time for the fun part! Layer shells, moss, coral, dried florals, netting, starfish, or any other coastal accents around the top of the ornament using hot glue.

Each ornament can be styled a little differently. One may feature more netting and moss, while another may highlight shells or a starfish. Mixing textures creates a unique handmade look every time.

If coastal dΓ©cor isn't your style, you can use the same technique with pinecones, greenery, berries, ribbon, or any of Essential Stencil's other transfer collections for completely different holiday themes.

Helpful Tips

  • Use a holder or small bowl to keep round ornaments from rolling.
  • Burnish slowly when working on curved surfaces for the cleanest transfer.
  • Layer embellishments instead of attaching everything at once to build a balanced arrangement.
  • Create coordinating ornaments using different turtle designs for a beautiful themed Christmas tree.
  • These ornaments also make wonderful handmade gifts and craft fair best sellers.
