Surfboard Prep

Materials:

Begin by preparing three wooden surfboard cuts. Make sure each piece is clean and completely dry. Lightly sand all surfaces, including the sides, to achieve a smooth finish.

Apply a brown water-based stain to each board using a stain sponge. Be sure to cover the entire surface, including edges and sides. Allow everything to dry completely before moving on.

Now build your coastal backgrounds:

  • Board 1: Dry brush with deep green chalk paint
  • Board 2: Dry brush with light blue chalk paint
  • Board 3: Dry brush with light green chalk paint

Use a light hand while dry brushing so some of the brown stain shows throughβ€”this creates that layered, weathered coastal look.

Sea Turtle Surfboard

Materials:
  • April 2026 Stencil Set (Turtle Design)
  • White chalk paint
  • Deep blue chalk paint
  • Stencil brush

Lightly sand your board again for a smooth stencil surface. Position the turtle design (first layer) and apply white paint using a stencil brush.

Once dry, align the second layer (pattern) and fill in with deep blue paint.

Take your time aligning layered stencilsβ€”this is what gives your design that detailed, dimensional look.

Helpful Tip:

Cutting stencil sections apart can make placement easier on smaller or uniquely shaped surfaces.

Jellyfish Surfboard

Materials:
  • April 2026 Stencil Set (Jellyfish Design)
  • White chalk paint
  • Deep blue chalk paint
  • Stencil brush

Position the jellyfish stencil (first layer) and apply white paint. Allow it to dry fully before moving on.

Align the second layer and apply deep blue paint to complete the design.

Helpful Tip:

Stick to the same color palette across all pieces to create a cohesive collectionβ€”perfect for displays or selling as a set.

Crab Surfboard

Materials:
  • April 2026 Stencil Set (Crab Design)
  • White chalk paint
  • Deep blue chalk paint
  • Stencil brush

Place the crab stencil (first layer) and fill in with white paint.

Once dry, align the second layer and apply deep blue paint to finish.

Helpful Tip:

Layered stencils are beginner-friendlyβ€”just work one layer at a time and let each dry fully before adding the next.

Final Coastal Collection

Here’s the finished set! Three coordinating surfboards using the same base stain, color palette, and stencil set.

This approach makes it easy to batch-create products for markets or gifts while keeping everything visually connected.
