Hey friends!
If you’ve ever wanted to try stenciling on fabric, this is a great place to start. In this tutorial, Melissa Miller of Millers Rustic Sawmill shows how to create a bold and festive patriotic t-shirt using simple supplies and easy techniques.
This project is perfect for summer holidays, handmade gifts, or even items to sell at craft fairs 🇺🇸
Lay your t-shirt flat and insert a piece of cardboard (or any firm, flat surface) inside to prevent paint from bleeding through.
Center your 4th of July Collage stencil on the shirt and secure it with tape.
Using a stencil brush, apply white paint evenly over the design. Let it dry, then add a second coat for full coverage.
Use light layers and a dabbing motion to prevent paint bleed.
With a clean brush, apply a second coat of gold paint to the Statue of Liberty and the star elements to make them stand out.
Use a smaller brush, like those in the Mini Stencil Brush Set, to carefully fill in the remaining elements with blue paint.
Lightly splatter blue paint across the shirt using a brush for a fun, festive finish.
This step is optional, but it adds a unique, handmade touch.
Once everything is completely dry, carefully remove the stencil to reveal your finished design.
This is where all your layering and detail work really shines!
To make your design permanent:
This helps lock in the paint so your shirt stays vibrant wash after wash.
This simple DIY is a great way to create custom apparel for holidays, events, or your handmade business.
