Nothing says summer quite like a relaxing day at the beach! In this coastal-inspired DIY, Tammy Muto from Cheers to Creativity transforms a simple round wood blank into a stunning beach-themed sign using Essential Stencil products. With blended ocean colors, textured sand, vibrant stencil lettering, and charming seashell embellishments, this project is the perfect way to bring seaside vibes into your home décor.
If you're dreaming of sandy shores and ocean breezes, this fun summer project is an easy way to create a piece that feels like a mini vacation every time you see it.
Begin by painting the bottom half of your round board with a yellowish-brown beach sand color using a flat brush.
While the paint is still damp, apply dark blue paint to the top half of the board.
Fill the middle section with a sky-blue paint. Lightly spritz the surface with water and blend the colors together where they meet to create a smooth transition from shoreline to ocean.
The secret to a realistic coastal background is blending while the paint is still wet. A light mist of water helps create those soft beach-inspired transitions.
Using a clean brush, add white paint where the water meets the sand. Pull the paint gently back and forth to mimic rolling waves along the shoreline.
Blend as desired until you're happy with the look of the shoreline.
Grab a sponge and lightly pounce beige paint onto the sandy section of the sign. This creates texture, variation, and depth that resembles natural beach sand.
Allow the background to dry completely before moving to the next step.
Position the It's a Shore Thing Stencil in the center of the board.
Using a brush from the Mini Stencil Brush Set, apply white paint as a base coat for the lettering.
Once dry, use a second stencil brush to apply bright pink paint over the white lettering.
Layering bright colors over a white base coat helps the design stand out and creates more vibrant coverage.
Cut out the shells and decorative accents from the Under the Sea Transfer Set.
Arrange them along the sandy portion of the sign until you're happy with the layout.
Then use the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool to burnish the transfers into place.
For added realism, lightly sponge a darker paint beneath the shells to create subtle shadows.
Complete the project by lightly applying glitter paint to the sandy area using a sponge.
The subtle sparkle catches the light beautifully and gives the finished piece a sun-kissed coastal feel.
