Hey friends! π
If youβre looking for a simple, unique way to add a patriotic touch to your decor, this project is such a fun one to try. Melissa Miller from Millerβs Rustic Sawmill created this beautiful reversible wooden tag using a soft navy base and layered floral stencil designβand the vintage feel is just so good.
This project is beginner-friendly, super customizable, and perfect for summer decorating or gifting. Letβs walk through it step-by-step!
Step 1: Create Your Base
Start by painting your wooden tag with a deep navy blue. Be sure to cover the entire surface, including the edges, for a clean and finished look. Allow it to dry completely.

Step 2: Stencil the Leaves
Position the floral stencil onto your tag. Using a mini stencil brush, fill in only the leaves with light blue paint using a gentle dabbing motion.
Tip: Less paint on your brush gives you cleaner stencil lines and prevents bleeding.

Step 3: Add White Flowers
Using a separate brush, fill some of the flowers with white paint. Once dry, go back and add red paint to the centers for contrast.

Step 4: Add Red Flowers
Fill the remaining flowers with red paint. Then add white centers to create balance and dimension.
Tip: On darker backgrounds, red may need a second coat to really popβbe patient for the best results.

Step 5: Add Your Wording
Place the β1776β stencil near the top of your tag and fill it in using white paint. Carefully remove the stencil to reveal crisp, clean lettering.
