DIY Christmas Reindeer Round Sign with Renee of Flip Flop Furnishings

Looking for a festive project to kick off your holiday crafting? This cozy Christmas Reindeer Round Sign tutorial by Renee of Flip Flop Furnishings is just what you need! In this fun and easy DIY, Renee walks through how to layer stencils, paint, and rub-on transfers to create a heartwarming Christmas design that’s perfect for your front door or mantel display.

Featuring a mix of classic holiday colors, whimsical reindeer, and a touch of Nordic charm, this project highlights some of our favorite stencils from the Essential Stencil Christmas 2025 Collection. Let’s get started!

🎨 Project: Christmas Reindeer Round Sign

    Materials Used:

    Step 1: Paint the Background

Start with a pre-stained 16" round board. Place a strip of painter’s tape across the center to divide it in half. Using a sponge, paint the bottom half red and apply a second coat for a richer finish.

Step 2: Add the Green Accent

Add another strip of tape, leaving a small section at the top. Paint this area with dark green, then blend a layer of light green for a soft ombre effect. Let everything dry completely.

    Step 3: Stencil the Greeting

Position the “Merry Christmas” stencil from the Santa & Rudolph Greetings Door Hanger Stencil on the red section. Using a stencil brush, dab on white paint. Apply a second coat for brightness.

Step 4: Add the Reindeer Trio

Place three reindeer from the Whimsical Reindeer Mini Sign Stencils on the unpainted section. Paint them white and let dry.

    Step 5: Smooth the Surface

Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the board to smooth and blend everything beautifully.

Step 6: Add the Holly Transfer

Cut out a holly design from the Scandinavian Christmas Rub-on Transfer Set. Position it at the top and use the Essential Transfer Tool to burnish it firmly.

Step 7: Give the Reindeer Cozy Sweaters

Reposition your reindeer stencil, then layer the Nordic Christmas Pattern Stencil just below it. Align the tiny Christmas trees and snowflakes to give each reindeer a Nordic-style sweater look!

Fill in the aligned stencil with green paint using a mini brush. Repeat for all three reindeer for a charming, matching finish.

    ✨ Final Reveal

Once everything is dry, give the entire piece a light sand for a smooth, professional look. Your reindeer family is ready to shine this holiday season!

    Helpful Tips:
    • Always work with a dry brush when stenciling to avoid paint bleed.
    • Blend your red and green sections smoothly by slightly dampening your sponge.
    • Lightly sand between steps for a polished, layered look.
    • Try experimenting with other transfer patterns to customize your piece!
