Quick, easy, and full of charm — Melissa Miller from Millers Rustic Sawmill walks us through a cozy Halloween door hanger using the Whooo’s There 12" Door Hanger Stencil. This project is perfect for a front-door wreath insert or a standalone porch accent.

Start with a pre-painted round board in a soft metallic purple + silver mix. (Melissa used a baby wipe to thin and blend the metallics for a soft sheen.)
Tape the Whooo’s There stencil centered on the board. Roll small tape pieces under edges if needed to keep the stencil flat while you work.
Using a stencil brush, fill the owl and the words “Whooo’s There” with dark purple. Keep paint light and build up in thin layers to avoid bleed. Avoid painting the feathered tufts above the eyes (tape them or block them first).
With a mini brush, paint the bats and the black parts of the eyes. Apply a second coat for bold, defined coverage.
Take off the tape covering the feathered tufts. Lightly trace their outline with a pencil so you can paint them cleanly with a detail brush later.
Using a stencil brush, fill the leaves with dark green. With a mini brush, paint the stem black and add a second coat as needed for coverage.
Paint the stars and the owl’s feet in bright orange using a mini brush. Multiple thin coats will keep edges crisp and vibrant.
Position the layered stencil over the owl’s body to add the orange belly details. Apply two coats if needed for brightness.
Place the layered stencil over each eye. First, fill the base with white. Then use the second layer to add black. Let each layer dry between coats to avoid lifting paint.
Return to the feathered tufts and the beak. Use a detail brush to paint them bright orange. Double-check for tiny touch-ups (nose, missed stars) and fix as needed.
Remove all stencils and tape. Dry completely. Optionally sand edges or lightly distress for a rustic look. Hang in a wreath or on the door.
