    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Stain and Prep the Base

Start by staining a 12x12 wood panel with a brown semi-transparent wood stain using a stain sponge. Make sure to cover the sides, then let it dry completely.

    2. Create a Coastal Background

Mix navy blue and black paint to create a deeper navy tone. Using a flat brush, apply the paint across the board in dry-brushed strokes for an aged, rustic look — don’t forget the sides!

    3. Sand for a Rustic Finish

Once dry, lightly sand the surface for smoothness. Sand the edges a bit harder to give your base that naturally worn, coastal feel.

    4. Add the First Stencil Layer

Tape down the first layer of the Vintage Santa Moon Layering Stencil. Using a stencil brush, apply beige paint evenly across the design. For more opacity, add a second coat once the first is dry.

    5. Build the Layers

Once dry, align the second stencil layer. Mix white and beige paint to create a lighter shade for Santa’s beard. Then, mix pink, white, and beige for a soft rosy skin tone and apply it to the face. Double coat for a brighter finish.

    6. Add Coastal Colors

Mix white and turquoise paint to create a light seafoam shade. Apply it to Santa’s hat for a soft coastal touch. Use white and beige for the hat, deer, and stars as a base layer, then lightly go over them again with white paint for highlights.

    7. Detail and Finish

Sand lightly to blend and smooth the layers. Then tape down the third stencil layer and add white details to Santa’s beard. Use gray paint for his eyes and brows with a mini stencil brush for precision. Add light turquoise to the hat for depth.

    8. Add a Coastal Accent

For the perfect finishing touch, attach a small starfish or coastal accent to the tip of Santa’s hat using strong adhesive. This gives your piece a unique seaside sparkle!

    Helpful Tips

    • Test colors first: Adjust turquoise or beige tones based on your preferred warmth or coolness.
    • Work in layers: Allow each stencil layer to dry before adding the next for crisp lines.
    • Use a light touch: Offload excess paint from your brush to prevent bleeding under the stencil.
    • Customize your finish: Add glitter, glaze, or a matte sealant depending on your décor style.
