DIY "Country Antiques" Sign with Sharon from I Restore Stuff

Hi friends! Today we’re joining Sharon Hankins from the blog I Restore Stuff for a charming farmhouse-style project: a "Country Antiques" sign. Sharon walks us through using the February 2026 Stencil of the Month Club set and Chinoiserie floral transfers to create a gorgeous, layered design perfect for any country-inspired space.

    Table of Contents

    Materials

    • Wooden slatted craft board (three planks combined)
    • Woodwick stain for top and bottom planks
    • Fusion Mineral Paint in Snowdrop white (use code IRESTORESTUFF for discount)
    • February 2026 Stencil of the Month Club set (Stencil of the Month)
    • Chinoiserie Vase & Flower Rub-on Transfer Set (link)
    • Stencil Brush Set | Pure Natural Bristle Brushes (link)
    • Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool (link)
    • Painter’s tape
    • Scissors

    Preparing Your Board

Sharon starts by preparing the three-plank board. She pre-stains the top and bottom planks with Woodwick stain and paints the middle plank white using Fusion Mineral Paint in Snowdrop. Allow the board to dry completely before moving to the next step.

    Stenciling the Words

Next, Sharon selects words from the February 2026 Stencil of the Month set. She chooses "Country" for the upper plank and "Antiques" for the lower plank. Here’s how she does it:

    1. Center the stencil on each plank and secure edges with painter’s tape.
    2. Using the stencil brushes, apply white paint with a light pouncing motion for crisp lettering.
    3. Carefully remove the stencils and allow the paint to dry.
    Helpful Tips:
    • Try different word combinations like "Country Homestead" or "Country Farmhouse" if you prefer.
    • Start from the center and work outwards for best alignment.
    • Use multiple layers or fonts for added depth.

    Adding the Chinoiserie Florals

Sharon enhances the sign with Chinoiserie Vase & Flower rub-on transfers. Steps:

    1. Cut out selected floral designs from the transfer pack.
    2. Arrange the flowers on the center white plank for a balanced composition.
    3. Use the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool to burnish the designs until fully adhered.
    4. Gently peel away the backing sheet, and layer additional floral pieces as desired.
    Helpful Tips:
    • Allow some elements to extend over the edges for a natural, layered look.
    • Press gently with your fingers to ensure all parts stick.
    • Mix and match vases and flowers to create a unique design.

    Finishing Touches & Tips

Once all stencils and transfers are applied, check your composition. Sharon recommends:

    • Ensuring edges are smooth and all transfers are fully adhered.
    • Sealing the board if desired, or leaving it natural for a rustic look.
    • Displaying the finished "Country Antiques" sign in your home for a charming farmhouse touch.
    Pro Tips:
    • Experiment with word layouts or floral placements for a personalized touch.
    • Use painter’s tape to maintain straight lines and symmetry.
    • Keep stencil brushes clean between colors for crisp lettering.
