Melissa Bradshaw of Junk and Craft Treasures brought cozy charm to Friday night crafting with a rustic primitive scene using Essential Stencil's new Primitive Collection. Working on the back of a 13"x10" sign (14"x11" surface), she blended muted paints and layered stencils to build a timeless folk-art inspired display.
Start with a 14"x11" board. Place the Checkered Pattern Stencil across the top and bottom. Lightly mark the edges with pencil as guides.

Tape across the guides to keep stencil areas clean during background painting.
Paint the lower half green (grass) and upper half blue (sky). Blend dabs of white into the sky for clouds.

Apply white paint in the taped bands, then stencil over with black for a framed border effect.

Stencil the Saltbox house in mustard with brown windows.

Add the Primitive Sheep in white with black accents and a red heart detail.

Next, stencil the Willow Tree using brown for the trunk and soft green for leaves. Add hand-painted branch details for texture.
Once dry, lightly sand the surface to soften edges. Then, use Walnut distress oxide ink around the borders and checkered areas for that worn, primitive look.

This heartfelt project highlights the full Primitive Collection in one cohesive design. It’s perfect for lovers of country style or primitive home decor.
