There’s something so timeless about soft florals layered over delicate lace. This week, Essential Stencil ambassador Melissa Bradshaw of Junk and Craft Treasures created the most beautiful 18” round using layered stencil texture and a romantic rub-on transfer.
The combination of pink lace and vintage florals gives this piece a soft, blended look that works beautifully for spring, cottage décor, or everyday farmhouse style.
Let’s walk through exactly how she created it.

Start by painting your round board with white paint. Allow it to dry completely, then apply a second coat for full, even coverage.
Pro Tip: Your first coat does not need to be perfect. The second coat is where you even everything out.
Make sure your surface is completely dry before moving on to stenciling.

Once dry, position the larger Fleur de Lace Pattern Stencil onto the board.
Using a stencil brush from the Stencil Brush Set, load your brush and offload the excess paint before applying.
Apply pale pink chalk paint (T Rose) over the lace design. Work in sections around the board, leaving the center area open for your transfer.
Less paint is key to preventing bleed. If your pattern doesn’t line up perfectly, don’t stress. From a distance, no one will notice.

Allow the stenciled paint to dry fully. Then lightly sand the surface.
This smooths the texture and gives the lace a beautifully blended, soft finish.
If using chalk paint, sealing is not necessary before transferring — just ensure the surface is completely dry and free of oils.

Position the Fleurs et Bicyclettes Rub-on Transfer in the center of the board.
Before committing, lay it face down to check placement.
Using the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool, carefully burnish each section.
Work around the edges and small lettering first to ensure everything adheres properly. Fully burnish each section before lifting the sheet to prevent wrinkling.
For a softer look, allow some of the lace pattern to show through the transfer.

Lightly dry brush black paint around the edges of the board.
This frames the piece and ties in the darker details from the transfer.
Start light — you can always add more, but you can’t take it away.

The pink lace layered under the floral bicycle transfer creates the prettiest vintage statement piece.
If you sell your creations, remember Melissa’s golden rule: price at least three times your material cost plus labor. Your art has value.
