Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Paint the Snowman Base

Position Layer 1 of the November Stencil of the Month (Basic Set) at the center of your board. Using a stencil brush, fill it in with white paint for a crisp, snowy base.

Step 2: Add the Snowman Details

Once the first layer is fully dry, carefully align Layer 2 and tape it down. Use a mini brush to fill in the hat, eyes, mouth, buttons, and arms with black paint.

Step 3: Paint the Scarf and Berries

Using red paint, fill in the snowman’s scarf and the berries for a cheerful holiday touch.

Step 4: Add Green Accents

With another brush, fill in the leaves and gloves using green paint to add festive color and balance.

Step 5: Add the Carrot Nose

Use a mini brush and orange paint to fill in the snowman’s carrot nose. Let it dry completely before adding the final layer.

Step 6: Add the Heart Layer

Position the heart stencil from Layer 3 in the center of the snowman and fill it with red paint. This detail adds a sweet, primitive touch that ties the whole piece together.

Step 7: Add Birds for Extra Charm

Place the bird stencil from the same layer at the bottom of your board and another on top of the snowman’s hat. Fill both with red paint to finish this joyful winter scene.

Helpful Tips

  • Dry between layers: Always allow each stencil layer to dry completely to avoid smudging.
  • Offload your brush: Lightly offload excess paint onto paper or cardboard to prevent bleeding under the stencil.
  • Experiment with colors: Mix traditional and whimsical hues for your scarf, hat, and accents to personalize your snowman.
  • Try different bases: Sharon used a stained wooden board, but you can also stencil onto canvas, fabric, or reclaimed wood.
