Halloween crafting season is officially here, and this adorable Floral Ghost Wood Cutout is the perfect mix of spooky and sweet! Melissa Bradshaw from Junk and Craft Treasures created this fun project using the gorgeous Burgundy & Rust Floral Rub-On Transfers from Essential Stencil, and the results are absolutely perfect for fall dΓ©cor, craft shows, or seasonal shelf sitters.
This project is beginner-friendly and a great way to use rub-on transfers on shaped wood surfaces instead of traditional signs. Letβs jump in!
Prepare your wooden ghost sign and small wooden bat, making sure both surfaces are clean and dry. If needed, lightly sand the surface first for a smooth painting base.
Apply white paint to the entire ghost sign, including the sides. Allow the first coat to dry completely before adding a second coat for full coverage.
Tip: Melissa always recommends making sure surfaces are clean, dry, and oil-free before applying transfers. Store-bought wood pieces sometimes contain sealers that can affect adhesion.
Paint the wooden bat, ghost eyes, and eyeglasses using black paint. Melissa chose a fun green color for the glasses to give the ghost a little personality.
Allow all embellishments to dry completely before attaching them later.
Once the ghost sign is dry, lightly sand the painted surface for a smoother finish and a slightly distressed look. Wipe away any excess dust.
Cut out floral elements from the Burgundy & Rust Floral Rub-On Transfer Set and begin layering them around the ghost. Melissa mixed the rich burgundy florals with neutral accents for a soft fall look.
Use the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool to burnish the transfers onto the surface. Work slowly while peeling the backing away to ensure the designs fully adhere.
Helpful Reminder: Donβt stress about perfect placement. Layering florals naturally creates a beautiful custom look.
Apply adhesive to the back of the ghost eyes, eyeglasses, and wooden bat. Press each piece firmly into place.
Melissa also lightly distressed the eyes and added an extra leaf detail to fill any empty spaces and give the project a more balanced design.
And here she is β the cutest little floral ghost with just the right amount of fall charm and personality!
This floral ghost is such a fun way to use seasonal transfers on shaped wood blanks, and itβs perfect for fall decorating or handmade market prep.
