3 Wood Blocks, Endless Style πŸ’« Vintage Transfer Magic Made Simple

If you love mixing textures and finishes, this trio of wood blocks is such a fun project to try. Tammy Muto from Cheers to Creativity shows how to use the same transfer set across different surfacesβ€”and how one simple color choice can tie everything together beautifully.

We’re working with the Vintage Heirloom Treasures Rub-On Transfer Set to create three unique pieces that feel cohesive as a set.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Boards
Start by preparing your three boards: one raw, one painted white, and one painted in a soft ivory tone. Make sure each surface is clean, smooth, and completely dry before starting.

Step 2: Apply the First Transfer
Cut out your key design from the transfer set and position it onto the raw wood board. Use your transfer tool to burnish firmly until the design fully adheres.

Step 3: Add the Floral Vase
Cut out the floral vase design and apply it to the white-painted board. Burnish thoroughly to ensure a clean transfer.

Step 4: Add Soft Shading
Using a mini brush, lightly apply brown paint beneath the vase to create a subtle grounded shadow. This small detail adds depth and makes the design feel more dimensional.

Step 5: Apply the Swan Design
Cut out the swan design and transfer it onto the ivory-painted board using the same burnishing technique.

Step 6: Add Color for Cohesion
Using a stencil brush, gently apply green paint beneath the swan and around the edges. This creates a soft, vintage-inspired finish.

Step 7: Tie Everything Together
Lightly distress the edges of the remaining boards using that same green tone. Using one consistent color across all pieces is the key to making them feel like a finished set.

Helpful Tips

  • Always burnish transfers slowly and evenly for the cleanest finish
  • Use light pressure when adding paintβ€”build color gradually
  • Stick to one accent color to unify multiple pieces
  • Mix painted and raw wood surfaces for added visual interest

This project is a great example of how a single transfer set can create multiple coordinated pieces with very little extra effort. It’s simple, flexible, and perfect for seasonal or everyday decor.
