One of my favorite things about seasonal decorating is finding creative ways to transform everyday items into unique holiday décor. During this live tutorial, Essential Stencil Ambassador Melissa Bradshaw of Junk and Craft Treasures shared a fun technique that combines stenciling, rub-on transfers, and light distressing to create a charming Halloween cutting board.
This project is beginner-friendly, easy to customize, and perfect for adding a touch of spooky farmhouse style to your home.

Begin by painting the entire wooden cutting board with white paint. Apply a smooth, even coat and allow it to dry completely.
Once dry, apply a second coat to achieve full coverage and create a bright backdrop for the Halloween design.
Position the large pattern from the Spiderweb Lace Pattern stencil onto the board.
Dip your stencil brush into black paint and dab off most of the excess. Using a dry-brush approach, lightly stencil only the bats, lace details, and spiderweb patterns.
Skip the crows and spiders during this step. This keeps the background subtle and prevents it from competing with the transfer design.
Carefully remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry.
Once the stenciled background is completely dry, cut out your chosen ghost design from the Wildflower Ghosts transfer set.
Position the transfer on one side of the cutting board. Using the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool, firmly burnish the entire design until it fully adheres to the surface.
Slowly peel away the carrier sheet to reveal your ghost.
Cut out several bat designs from the Wildflower Ghosts transfer set and place them directly over the stenciled bat images.
This layering technique creates additional depth and gives the project a more finished look.
Next, cut out a small floral element from the transfer set and place it beside the flowers on the ghost design. This extends the floral arrangement and creates a beautiful cascading effect.
For a rustic, vintage-inspired finish, lightly dip your brush into black paint and wipe most of it off onto a paper towel.
Softly brush around the edges of the cutting board, blending and smudging the paint to create a distressed frame effect.
This subtle shadowing helps draw attention toward the center design.
The finished project combines soft stenciled details, layered transfers, and distressed accents for a Halloween décor piece that's both spooky and elegant.
