Hi friends! π
If youβve ever wanted to try fabric paintingβor just make something fun and a little quirkyβthis adorable goose project is the perfect place to start.
This design comes from Tammy Muto of Cheers to Creativity, and her approach makes fabric painting feel simple, forgiving, and so much fun. Whether youβre working on a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or even thrifted finds, this technique is one youβll come back to again and again.
Letβs jump in!
Start with a pre-washed shirt. Place a flat, hard surface (like a board) inside the shirt to prevent paint from bleeding through and to make stenciling easier.

Tip: Keeping your fabric tight makes a huge difference in getting clean stencil lines.
Position and tape your stencil in the center of the shirt. Using a mini brush, lightly fill in the goose outline with grey fabric paint.

Tip: Offload your brush before applying paint to avoid bleeding under the stencil.
Fill in the beak with yellow paint and use a deeper orange for the feet. Then carefully lift the stencil.

Using a mini brush, fill in the gooseβs body with grey paint. Blend in small touches of white and black while the paint is still wet to create soft dimension.

This is where the magic happens: light and dark strokes give your goose that soft, feathery look.
Once dry, reposition the stencil carefully. Add feather details with a darker grey, fill the bow with blue, and the eye with black.

Pro tip: Add a small white base under the bow first if you want the blue to really pop.
Using a detail brush, add definition lines to the feet and beak.

Donβt skip this step: small details bring your design to life.
Add a soft brown base beneath the feet to ground your goose and give it a finished look.

Reposition the stencil and add small flowers. Use white for petals, yellow for centers, and green for stems and leaves.

Lightly paint green streaks around the flowers to create a soft grassy effect.

Fabric painting is one of those techniques thatβs easy to start and hard to stop. Every piece turns out a little differentβand thatβs the best part.
