✨ Believe Anything Is Possible 🦋 Dragonfly Sign with Soft Ombre & Shimmer Wings

If you’ve ever needed a reminder that your dreams matter, this one’s for you.

Amanda from Mettle Modern Design shared the sweetest dragonfly project during her Monday night live — and the message says it all: Believe Anything Is Possible.

This simple 8x8 wood sign uses soft blended stains, crisp stenciling, and a touch of shimmer to create a meaningful piece that works in any space. Let’s walk through it step-by-step.

Believe Anything Is Possible Dragonfly Sign

    Materials Used:

Step 1: Create a Soft Ombre Background

Start by staining your 8x8 board with white stain using a staining sponge. Be sure to cover the front and all sides evenly.

Next, apply beige stain along the bottom portion of the board. Lightly spritz water to help soften and blend.

Apply mint green stain to the upper portion. Spritz again and blend using white in the center if needed to create a soft, subtle ombre effect.

If the stain feels grabby, a light mist of water makes blending much smoother.

Allow the board to dry completely.

Step 2: Sand for a Smooth Finish

Lightly sand using an ultra-fine sanding pad to smooth any raised grain.

This step gives your stencil the cleanest possible finish.

    Step 3: Stencil the Wording

Secure the “Believe anything is possible” stencil from the With Brave Wings She Flies Stencil Set using tape.

Using a brush from the Stencil Brush Set, apply black paint in a light swirling motion.

Offload your paint well. A nearly dry brush prevents bleed.

    Step 4: Add the Dragonfly

Using blue paint and a clean stencil brush, fill in the dragonfly design.

Step 5: Add Shimmer to the Wings

With a brush from the Mini Stencil Brush Set, apply blue glitter paint to the wings.

    Allow to dry completely.

    Step 6: Reposition for Depth

Carefully realign the stencil and lightly reapply blue to restore detail and add subtle dimension.

Tape is insurance. It keeps your stencil from shifting while you work.

    Final Reveal

This piece comes together in about 20 minutes and carries such a meaningful message.

    Helpful Tips:
    • Always offload paint before stenciling.
    • Use light swirling motions.
    • Sand between stain and stencil for best results.
    • Water is your friend for soft blending.
    • If desired, you can embellish the wings later with glass and resin for extra dimension.
