DIY Golf & Fall Signs: Two Creative Stencil Projects

In this tutorial, Ambassador Sharon Hankins of I Restore Stuff shares two beautiful DIY projects you can easily make at home. She walks us through creating a Father’s Day Golf Sign and a Fresh Baked Pie Shelf Sitter. Both projects are simple, beginner-friendly, and a great way to add handmade charm to your home or gift-giving!

Project 1: I’d Rather Be Golfing Sign

    Materials

Step 1: Paint the inside of your 8" wood canvas with Raw Silk paint for a clean, bright background.

Step 2: Center the “I’d Rather Be Golfing” stencil inside the frame. Using a stencil brush, apply black paint with a light swirling or tapping motion to avoid bleed-through.

Step 3: Carefully lift the stencil to reveal your crisp golf-themed sign.

    Helpful Tips

    • Always offload extra paint onto a paper towel before stenciling to prevent bleeding.
    • For a cleaner look, tape down stencil edges with painter’s tape.
    • This design makes a thoughtful Father’s Day, Christmas, or “golf buddy” gift!

Project 2: Fresh Baked Pie Shelf Sitter

Step 1: Begin with a pre-stained wood block, ensuring the surface is clean and dry.

Step 3: Cut out the pie and latte design from the Cozy Fall Farmhouse Rub-on Transfer set. Use the transfer tool to burnish it firmly beneath the stenciled words.

Step 4: Peel away the transfer sheet to reveal your cozy fall shelf sitter.

    Helpful Tips

    • Rub transfers slowly and evenly, ensuring all edges adhere before peeling away.
    • This small block sign is perfect as a shelf sitter, tiered tray piece, or kitchen accent.
    • Mix and match other fall transfers for endless cozy combinations.
