🎨 Faith, Florals & Fresh Layers: A Stenciled Sign You’ll Love

Hey friends! Melissa from Junk and Craft Treasures, sharing one of her favorite layered stencil projects using Essential Stencil products. This decorative oval sign combines soft paint colors, subtle patterning, and floral rub-on transfers for a timeless, elegant look.

If you love projects that feel creative but still approachable, this one is perfect. We’re working with simple paint sections, light stencil layering, and floral transfers to create a balanced, beautiful finished piece.

    Decorative Sign Project

    Materials Needed

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Step 1: Section the Board
Mark the center of your oval board with a pencil. Use painter’s tape to divide the board into three sections, creating a center stripe that will guide your design.

Step 2: Paint the Center Stripe
Fill the center section with mint green paint. Allow it to dry fully, then apply a second coat for even coverage.

    Step 3: Paint the Background
Carefully remove the tape, then reposition it along the edges of the mint section to protect it. Paint the top and bottom sections using buttercream paint. Let everything dry completely.

    Step 4: Smooth the Surface
Lightly sand the board once the paint is dry. This helps keep the stencil work clean and smooth.

Step 5: Add the Damask Pattern
Place the Damask stencil over the top and bottom sections. Using a stencil brush, apply bright white paint with most of the paint offloaded from the brush. Repeat as needed until both sections are filled.

    Step 6: Stencil the Wording
Remove the tape and position the Faith Hope Love stencil over the mint stripe. Stencil with white paint using a gentle tapping motion to avoid bleed-through.

Step 7: Apply the Floral Transfers
Cut out floral elements from the Pink Roses transfer set. Arrange them along the top and bottom sections. Once you’re happy with placement, burnish using the transfer tool until fully released.

    Step 8: Seal and Finish
Once everything is dry, seal the sign with a flat varnish to protect your design while keeping a soft, elegant finish.

    Helpful Tips

    • Always offload excess paint when stenciling for crisp results.
    • Dry time matters. Let each layer dry before moving on.
    • Lay out transfers first to check balance before burnishing.
    • Keeping the background subtle allows florals and wording to shine.
