Materials Needed:

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Plan Your Design

Place the 250th floral transfer from the America's Semiquincentennial Set along the bottom of your cutting board. Use it as a guide to determine where your color split will be, then place a strip of tape above the design and set the transfer aside.

Step 2: Create the White Background

Using a staining sponge, apply white stain to the bottom section of the board and around the edges. Allow it to dry completely and apply a second coat for a bright, solid finish.

Step 3: Add the Navy Section

Move the tape to protect the white section. Apply navy stain to the top portion and handle of the cutting board using a clean sponge. Allow everything to dry completely before removing the tape.

Step 4: Smooth the Surface

Once the stain is dry, lightly sand the board to smooth any raised grain and prepare the surface for your transfer and stencil work.

Step 5: Apply the Floral Transfer

Reposition the floral transfer onto the white section. Using the Essential Rub-On Transfer Tool, burnish the design until it fully adheres to the board.

Step 6: Stencil the Stars

Place the large stencil from the Star Pattern Set + Bonus Stencil onto the navy section. Using a stencil brush and white acrylic paint, add stars across the top.

Step 7: Distress for a Rustic Finish

After the paint dries, lightly sand the top section again. Then use the same sponge from the white stain and gently drag a small amount of stain around the edges and across a few stars to create an aged, weathered look.

Helpful Tips:
  • Apply two coats of white stain for a bright, clean background.
  • Allow each layer to dry completely before moving tape or adding additional details.
  • Light sanding between steps creates a smooth, professional finish.
  • A little distressing goes a long way. Add just enough white stain to achieve a soft vintage appearance.

Final Reveal

The finished piece has the perfect balance of patriotic charm and rustic farmhouse style. Display it on a shelf, use it as part of your seasonal dΓ©cor, or gift it to someone who loves Americana-inspired decorating.
