Spooky Halloween Glass & Resin Frame

This project starts with a simple arched frame and turns it into a dimensional Halloween scene. The smaller Spiderweb Lace pattern is perfect for adding detailed spooky texture around the frame without overwhelming the finished design.

1. Prep the Frame

Start with a white arched, glass-front wooden frame. Make sure the surface is clean and completely dry before beginning.

Give the top surface a light scuff sand. This helps create a surface that the chalk paint can grip onto.

2. Add the Spiderweb Lace Stencil

Position the smaller pattern from the Spiderweb Lace Pattern Stencil onto the frame.

Using a stencil brush, pick up a small amount of black chalk paint and offload most of the paint before stenciling. This helps keep the design crisp and detailed.

Carefully lift the stencil, then reposition it and repeat the process until the desired areas of the frame are covered.

Don't worry about making every repeat perfectly identical. Look for similar sections of the pattern as you move around the frame. Once the entire design comes together, the small variations blend beautifully into the overall look.

3. Let the Paint Cure

If you're making this project at home, take your time at this stage. Allow the paint to cure completely before moving on to the resin portion. Amanda also recommends sealing the painted frame before continuing with the resin.

4. Create the Glass Background

Now comes the fun part! Place colored art glass pieces inside the glass-front frame to create the background for your Halloween scene.

Amanda used mostly gray glass to create a dark, nighttime feel, along with darker and amber-toned pieces for added warmth and dimension.

There is no need to follow a specific pattern here. Move the pieces around until you like the balance of colors, shapes, and textures.

5. Build the Spooky Scene

Once the glass is arranged, start layering in the Halloween embellishments.

Try adding pieces such as:

• A small fence
• A scarecrow
• Mini tombstones
• A moon
• A wooden bat
• Other small Halloween embellishments you have on hand

Arrange and rearrange the pieces until the scene feels balanced. There really isn't a wrong way to create your little Halloween scene. The goal is to have fun with the composition and make it your own.

6. Mix and Add the Resin

Before working with resin, put on protective gloves and make sure your work surface is properly protected.

Mix the resin according to the manufacturer's package directions. Stir slowly and thoroughly. Avoid whipping or aggressively stirring the resin, since that can introduce extra bubbles.

Once the resin is fully mixed, carefully drizzle it over the entire piece. Rather than completely flooding the frame, apply enough resin to cover and secure the glass and embellishments while allowing some of the texture to remain visible.

Work the resin around and underneath the embellishments and between the pieces of glass so everything is securely embedded.

Once the piece is covered, use the recommended method from your resin manufacturer to help release surface bubbles. Amanda uses a little heat for this step.

7. Let It Cure Completely

Allow the resin to dry and cure completely according to the manufacturer's instructions before handling or displaying the finished piece.

And there you have it! A simple white frame has been transformed into a spooky little Halloween scene filled with texture, color, and dimension.
